Dental Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays are the more conservative approach to repairing tooth decay and cracked or damaged teeth. An inlay refers to procedures where the material is bonded only to the center of the tooth. An onlay can extend to the crests of the tooth as well. Porcelain is often used but sometimes inlays or onlays can be created with gold. One of the main benefits of these procedures is that a minimal portion of the tooth has to be removed to make way for the material. They are also durable and natural looking.
How it works:
This is typically a two visit process. In the first visit, the dentist will take an impression of your teeth. The dentist then sends this impression to a dental lab where they will custom manufacture your inlay or onlay. A temporary filling is prepared while you wait.
During your second visits, the temporary piece is replaced with the new one, making sure that it fits comfortably.
